Akshay Pattabi

Hello! I am Akshay Pattabi, a postdoctoral researcher in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences department at University of California, Berkeley. Welcome to my personal homepage!

My research at UC Berkeley has focused broadly on understanding ultrafast magnetic phenomena in picosecond (picosecond = 10-12 second) and sub-picosecond timescales by experimentally exciting magnetic thin films with short femtosecond (femtosecond = 10-15 second) laser pulses, and picosecond electrical pulses. I also carry out experimental research on current-induced spin accumulation (the so-called spin-Hall effect) and the spin orbit torque they exert on magnetic bits at short timescales.

Teaching is a passion of mine. In addition to being a teaching assistant as a graduate student at Berkeley, I have also co-instructed an undergraduate course on Microelectronic Devices and Circuits at Berkeley during Spring 2021, and am scheduled to instruct a course on the Fundamentals of Photovoltaic Devices during Spring 2022.

Please find details about my research, teaching and other endeavors here. (Some sections of this website are still under construction)
